Job Description

Adelphi is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) to assist in providing occupational therapy services to students in a school district in Las Vegas, New Mexico. The COTA will provide in-person occupational therapy assistant services to students under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist (OT) and school district personnel. The ideal candidate will have a current, active New Mexico State Board License as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) and a minimum of one year of experience in a school setting is preferred.

Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant from an accredited institution
  • Current, active New Mexico State Board License as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) 
  • Up-to-date CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a school setting is preferred


Responsibilities:

  • Assist students in developing, recovering, and improving the skills needed for daily living and working.
  • Work under the direction of occupational therapists to implement treatment plans.
  • Conduct activities and exercises to help students improve motor skills, coordination, and cognitive functions.
  • Use therapeutic equipment and tools to support student rehabilitation.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and treatment plans.
  • Document student responses to treatments and report any changes to the supervising occupational therapist.
  • Educate students and their families on how to use adaptive equipment and techniques for daily activities.
  • Provide guidance on home exercise programs and strategies to manage daily tasks independently.
  • Work closely with occupational therapists, other professionals, and student families to ensure cohesive care.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of comprehensive care plans.
  • Ensure that all activities and treatments adhere to safety standards and regulations.
  • Stay updated on best practices and continuing education requirements for Occupational therapy
  • Other duties as assigned by administration.
