Job Title: Geotechnical Designer

Position Summary: We are seeking a Geotechnical Designer to join our growing team in Virginia Beach, VA . In this role, you will support a wide range of geotechnical engineering projects involving roads, bridges, retaining walls, pavements, and other heavy civil infrastructure. You will work under the guidance of the Senior Geotechnical Engineer , performing fieldwork, analysis, and design support for infrastructure projects throughout the Southeast U.S. , including high-profile transportation and military projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct geotechnical field testing, data analysis, and reporting under supervision.
• Assist with geotechnical design for slopes, foundations, pavements, and seismic analysis.
• Prepare and review boring logs and lab test data; manage documentation and drawing archives.
• Collaborate with engineers, clients, subconsultants, and internal teams across disciplines.
• Support construction efforts and respond to RFIs.
• Travel up to 50% for site visits across VA, NC, GA, FL, LA, MS, AL, and SC.
• Participate in design-build pursuits and attend relevant industry conferences.
• Provide mentorship to junior geotechnical staff.

Qualifications:

• Proficiency with MicroStation and geotechnical tools (e.g., Slide, L-Pile, A-Pile, GRLWEAP, Settle 3D).
• Familiar with job cost tracking, scheduling, safety protocols, and construction processes.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S.; must pass pre-employment screening.

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a Geotechnical concentration required.
• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
• EIT certification required ; PE lClientnse preferred or attainable.
• 7 10 years of geotechnical engineering experience required.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs occasionally.
• Must have reliable transportation for field visits and short-notClient meetings.
• Ability to work in outdoor conditions, including heat, noise, and construction environments.
• Capable of visual, auditory, and physical demands required in field and offClient settings.

Work Schedule:

• Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM (40 hours/week)
• Occasional nights/weekends required for site supervision
