Job Description

iMedX, a Rapid Care Group Company, has an opportunity for you to join a winning team!  We have an immediate openings for remote, part- or full-time employee positions.  The ideal candidate should have 3 years of coding experience (inpatient is a plus but not required).  Experience assigning SDOH (social determinant of health) codes is preferred but not necessary.  Experience with coding in a behavioral health setting is also preferred.  The client's EHR system can be difficult to navigate.  We are looking for candidates who are able to assist in providing education on documentation improvements.

Purpose
The Medical Coding Specialist abstracts clinical information from health records and assigns accurate and complete codes in accordance with Official Coding Guidelines and iMedX standards as appropriate.

Organizational Structure: The Medical Coding Specialist reports to the Coding Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Abstracts relevant clinical information from the health records.
  2. Identifies the principal and secondary diagnoses based on the Coding Guidelines.
  3. Assigns ICD codes to the principal and secondary diagnoses.
  4. Identifies procedures based on Coding Guidelines.
  5. Assigns ICD and CPT codes to the procedures.
  6. Assign principle diagnoses for DRG reimbursement.
  7. Assigns correct principal and secondary ICD-10-PCS codes with attention to accurate sequencing.
  8. Complies with the Clinical Coding Initiative (CCI) edits when assigning codes.
  9. Meets or exceeds the iMedX coding quality standards.
  10. Understands and adheres to all requirements related to coding compliance.
  11. Performs coding in an efficient and productive manner utilizing good time management and professional work habits.  Meets productivity standards for position.
  12. Refers coding questions to the Coding Manager in a timely manner for feedback and coding guideline development.
  13. Continually enhances coding skills.  Participates in team meetings and educational conferences to ensure coding practice remains current.
  14. Maintains confidentiality and safeguards the privacy of protected health information (PHI).
  15. Promotes the Company’s values.
  16. Performs other job related duties as may be assigned or required.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.  Completion of a formal coding program. Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or other AHIMA or AAPC approved coding credential preferred.  

Experience: Minimum of three years’ coding work experience encompassing a working knowledge of the ICD and CPT coding systems; medical terminology; anatomy and physiology; and health record content. Exhibits a sense of urgency towards work, possesses intermediate level computer skills, attention to detail, excellent customer service and written and verbal communication skills.
