WHIN is currently seeking a high performing Assistant Principal ready to help grow a unique school community where compassion, kindness, and curiosity drive each and every day. 

Specifically, the Assistant Principal at WHIN reports to the Principal and is primarily responsible for ensuring all students are learning his/her best by ensuring teachers are fully prepared, supported, and performing at a high caliber. 

Specifically, the Assistant Principal’s responsibilities are to:

  • Collaborate with the Principal to plan and execute curriculum and instruction aligned to WHIN’s mission and vision.
  • In conjunction with the Directors of Curriculum and Instruction, plan and execute the curriculum and instruction that fosters student growth.
  • Develop teachers’ ability to raise student achievement and foster a positive a learning environment. 
  • Partner in leading a culture that results in the love of earning and inclusive school community.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Special Education and Operations team to coordinate state testing logistics 
  • Plan and lead professional development that results in improved pedagogy and student achievement
  • Work collaboratively and think flexibly to support and improve systems and decision-making processes that strengthens outcomes
  • Support and strengthen a data-driven culture that seeks continuous improvement
  • Observe and coach instructional staff leading to pedagogical growth and student achievement
  • Engage families and communities in support of child’s learning and school learning goals, and support teammates in building family partnerships
  • Manage the effective implementation curriculum and instruction, including providing feedback to teachers on their lessons
  • Attend occasional monthly Board of Trustees meetings in the evening 
  • Supervise special school programs or activities such as tutoring, summer program, and/or family workshops
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications for the Assistant Principal are:

  • Minimum Education Level: Master’s Degree in education or education related field
  • NYS School Building Leader certification 
  • Three years (minimum) classroom experience 
  • At least one year’s experience leading, managing, and coaching a team of adults that demonstrates results through others
  • Experience in urban schools and/or communities
  • Strong organization skills 
  • Keen analytical problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to work well on a team and communicate effectively
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as take coaching as needed 
  • A sense of humor and kindness towards your colleagues 

Advanced proficiency in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred

  • Bilingual (Spanish)
  • Music performance 
  • Intermediate or middle school teaching experience and certifications 
  • Project Based Learning and Inquiry Based Learning
  • Responsive Classroom and Restorative Justice models
  • NY State and Common Core learning Standards
  • Cross Curricular Planning and Implementation 
  • Demonstrated success raising achievement levels of all students 

Compensation and Benefits: $105,000-$130,000
